THE EAGLE OF SINGING STONES LODGE Many moons ago Great Eagle soared the skies over the land that is now called Oklahoma. Eagle was truly
a majestic bird. Eagle soared gracefully over the hills and canyons of Beautiful Earth. Eagle swooped and dived over
the verdant forest and deep Rivers, home of Tree People and Water Spirits. Great Spirit loved the mighty bird and
enjoyed watching Eagle on the daily flights.
For many Moons and many Suns, the daily ceremony continued, Eagle blessed Earth and Sky with Good Medicine. Great Spirit was happy and full of joy. However, as it is with the way of
things, Majestic Eagle became Old Eagle. The flights became shorter and not as high. Still Eagle was just as beautiful
and majestic as when she was young. Great Spirit still was watching over Great Eagle. Great Spirit called a Council
of the Sky Spirits, the Tree Spirits, the Water Spirits and the Stone Spirits. Great Spirit said, “As it is the
way of things ,Great Eagle will soon die. It is time for her to pass over into the place of Eagle Spirits. Watch carefully
for I will help Great Eagle complete her flight.
So the Tree Spirits, the Water Spirits and the Stone Spirits
began to keep a daily vigil and offered prayers at Sunrise to the Four Winds for the safe passage of Great Eagle.
Great Spirit pondered upon how the memory of Great Eagle could always be honored and kept sacred.
Great Spirit
suddenly knew how it could be done. This is how it happened. Great Spirit sent Great Lightening and in a flash of fire,
Great Eagle was turned into the most beautiful of stones. All of the colors, pure and clear as shimmering glass form
the image of Great Eagle.
Great Spirit had talked to lodge keeper. Together they prepared a place with a view
to the South. Great Eagle received a welcome and a Great Feast was given. Many Earth people gathered and offered sacred
herbs to the Four Winds.
The Tree Spirits, the stone Spirits and the Water Spirits, the Sky Spirits and the keeper of the Lodge are happy. Great Spirit watches over them all and feels joy
Great Eagle still blesses with
Good Medicine. When Sun is in a good place even Rainbow comes to laugh and gives her colors to the Lodge in gratitude.
All are happy. Great Eagle gives her welcome and spreads her Wings in A Healing Blessing over all who come here.
And The Heart of The Lodge Keeper at Singing Stones is filled with Joy and Gratitude.

An old
Grandfather, whose grandson came to him with anger at a schoolmate who had done him an injustice, said, "Let me tell
you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But
hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled
with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good and does
no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight
when it is right to do so, and in the right way." "But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger The littlest thing
will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and
hate are so great. It is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit." The
boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?" The Grandfather solemnly
said, "The one I feed." |
The
Story of the Making Of The Bow
In the dark days when man was small and non-existent There was a time of Great
Upheaval When Man reached out and knew not what he was looking for. There was monsters great and tall with ferocious
teeth and sought only Blood. There was a man who stood unafraid who said no to the monster he ran away. He stumbled onto a tree who spoke to him ‘you take my limbs and make a bow’ and from the forest he
drew arrows then the stones begin to speak, ‘if you will break us up, we will become darts to be placed on
your arrows. Shoot, shoot at the neck of the intruders, take your knife, slit the throat
Turn and walk
away toward the setting sun leave behind the killing of the beast so he will not challenge or begin to follow you Upon reaching the quiet shore lay your life down until it is no more. ....teachingbear....

Reflection on Teachingbear's Medicine Story. by wordweaver
This is a time when we are feeling very insignificant. We question the meaning and purpose of our existence. Why? Does any thing really matter? This is a time of Great Upheaval. Upheaval of the Earth, Upheaval
of nations, upheaval of our institutions, upheaval in our communities, upheaval within ourselves. Alienation, conflict,
war, violence is being experienced in every part of our planet. The human family is searching, reaching out, yearning
and longing for something we know not what. We know in every cell of our being that we have lost something, only we do
not know what it is.
We are wandering in the forest of our fears and the monsters are all around us. Where
is it that we find, discover the courage to say “NO’ to all the monsters that take our life blood, The
monsters of materialism, arrogance, greed, consumerism, self-righteousness, narcisism, racism. Spiritual and emotional abuse
In the darkness, in all our stumbling ways, the source of our freedom is right in front of us. We find new
ways to take back our power, to find our voice, to stand straight and tall upon Mother Earth, shoot straight at all that
which would devour us, taking the life of our spirituality and our soul life. All that which has taken our history, the
power of the ancient stories, the wisdom of the earth and made all of us victims.
The intruders are all around
us. And within us, the snipers of the Spirit. We must return to the ancient wisdom of the earth, listen with receptive
hearts and open minds, Listen. Catch a new vision in the darkness, Leave behind old fears, fashion new bows of
power release with unwavering power new understandings that dissolve the old powers that would take our lives
Turn our backs on both the beast and the killing of the beast, the memory that haunts our nights and dreams.
We walk into the West of The setting Sun, the place of rest, of healing,of deep healing of the wounded soul This is a
place of safety, a place of renewal A place of transformation. Where the beasts of our memory dare not go. Where
the ghosts are banished forever
Then in the quietness of wisdom learned, we live our lives until it is time to
give life up. But we will have given it up to life , not to the monsters and the ghosts We will have completed the
Circle as true Warriors. |
